Last night, City Paper released a statement about problems with our March 7 cover story. Given some time to think about the piece and do further research on reader complaints, I have come to the following conclusions:
First, we originally planned to put the story back online today. Our thought was that it was not fair to the other women profiled in the piece. However, given that we know that a photo was intentionally altered to remove a swastika, I don’t have enough confidence in the factual reporting of the piece, even though it may all be accurate. Also, several of the artists have reached out and asked not to be included any longer, given the content of the original piece. We believe that not putting the story back online to be the best course of action.
Secondly, in the earlier statement, we said we intended to leave Amber Lambert, of Bloodeagle Tattoo, in the piece after examining her social-media footprint yesterday afternoon. While she has denied claims that she was a supporter of the white-power movement, further investigation has uncovered several photos of Lambert’s husband adorned in several tattoos linked to the white-power movement. We regret posting that statement before doing further investigation.

You should just resign. You literally fucked up the statement retracting the story and in effect gave this dickhead’s white power band even MORE free publicity, which is more than you usually do for any band that isn’t friends with your “staff”. Just a pitiful disgrace. I don’t even want it for free.
Hate is as ugly as those who have it blocking their minds from any chance of critical thinking. The inability to think clearly much less critically is just ugly however, many people cannot change the ugly that their minds suffer. I live it. The ugly in my mind isnt hate but it doesnt make me better. Its just a different mental health diagnosis. Its not shameful but its a shame to deal with. Again, I can say it because I live it.
Pardon the ambiguity but its not a public conversation.
I think this was handled in the best way you could, given the circumstances.
If you’re not going to re-post the article, could maybe there be a list of the women who were featured & their shops?
