Thought I’d share this feedback from a reader, who apparently wasn’t impressed with our “Occupy Christmas” cover of a few weeks ago … or with the Occupy movement itself. (It’s worth noting that, like so many of the letters I get here, this came in an envelope addressed in a shaky hand, with no return address.) It raises some questions to be sure. Like: Do Occupiers REALLY shop at J. Jill?

On a related subject, did ANYONE catch that the little poem that went with this image was to the tune of “Away in a Manger”? Oh well. Happy New Year, all.

  1. As amusing as this is, some valid points are brought up by the “revision”. I constantly urge my fellow occupiers not to buy from corporations, yet they return to camp with their Starbucks. I even received a Christmas gift, a Steelers hoodie, from someone. I’m sick with guilt thinking about the poor girls and boys and Malaysia who made this for pennies.

  2. It is unrealistic to avoid corporations. People wear shoes so they buy em from Nike. People eat bananas, get em from Dole. Heck, the City Paper is owned by a corporation, Steel City Media. These protesters aren’t making a lick of difference cause they and nonprotesters will continue to buy goods from the 1%.

And further, small businesses don’t offer employee benefits comparable to a corporation. Who do you think is better off, a barista at Crazy Mocha making 8 an hour plus tips and no health insurance or a barista at Starbucks making 10 an hour plus tips and great health insurance and profit sharing?

I gotta go to Wal-Mart now. Yeah yeah yeah, like Target is much better.
