Western Pennsylvania has only had medical marijuana dispensaries for a bit over a year, but they are as popular as ever. Demand for cannabis medication has been so high that most dispensaries have had trouble keeping products on their shelves.
This can mean some impatient patients, and that can lead to chronic headaches for dispensaries. But, The Healing Center has figured out a way to keep everyone happy.
Winners of City Paper’s first ever Best Medical Marijuana Dispensary award, The Healing Center has dispensaries in Monroeville and Washington, Pa., with a Cranberry location set to open in November.
Chris Kohan, co-founder of The Healing Center, says customers are drawn to the professionalism of his dispensaries. He says his dispensaries are averaging about 500 patients a day, with some days pushing 900 patients a day.
Kohan says the centers are handling the large volumes of patients because of their dedication to follow everything by the book.
“We are mapping the way the [Pennsylvania] Department of Health mandated,” says Kohan. “I wanted to put out a dispensary that is the poster child for the state.”
This means having knowledgeable and well trained employees, and as many pharmacists on staff as possible. Kohan says his team is continually educating themselves on the most up-to-date research and information about cannabis products. He believes this medical-first approach is a big reason The Healing Center has been successful at guiding patients to the proper dosage and suggesting the best ways to partake in medical marijuana, whether through edibles, tinctures, or vapes.
“Pharmacists run our stores. We are a pharmacy, that is what we are,” says Kohan. “We consult you on your health and try to alleviate your illness.”
Kohan adds that many patients also appreciate The Healing Center’s online ordering system, which helps expedite patient wait times, which he says never exceed 15-20 minutes. Anxiety recently became a qualifying condition for medical marijuana in Pennsylvania, which will undoubtedly increase the number of patients coming to The Healing Center.
But Kohan says the dispensaries will be ready.

Id say The Healing Center is a far cry from the best. The reality is Maitri Medicinals is the best. Ive had more bad experiences at The Healing Center than any other dispensary. Issues ranging from being given the wrong products (they couldnt tell the difference between and cartridge and a pod) to cashiers not knowing how to count (they didnt properly apply the discount that was being given that week because they didnt realize that 60+45 is over 100.)
Meanwhile Maitri has the biggest selection of all the dispensaries, plus the largest stock it seems like. And all their prices are the same or lower than the other places. For instance, 6 month old gram of concentrate goes for $70 at Maitri. 2-3 months later that same batch (now 8-9 months old) is being sold at Solevo for $100. That delicious Ilera distillate goes for 45 at Maitri? Same batch is 60 at The Healing Center…
Everyone do yourselves a favor and if your location/transportation allows, go to Maitri!
To each is own with opinions but The Healing Center won for a reason, and the others didnt for a reason Congrats THC! Well deserved.
THC won because they ARE the best. I can’t tell anyone the amount of times I’ve heard patients in the waiting room there complaining about Solevo, CY, etc for the wait times, the lack of any kind of explanation for new patients, the lack of product at the other dispensaries. All of this I have seen myself, as well! Furthermore, I love the environment, I love the employees, I have never had a bad visit and I’ve been going there for almost a year, pretty much since they opened. While everyone is entitled to their opinion, it’s rather amusing because usually it’s from a disgruntled patient who didn’t get their way, didn’t get a discount, didn’t have the red carpet rolled out etc. But, THEY WON, so who cares what a hater gotta say anyhow??! 😉

But none of their locations are even actually in Pittsburgh?
My location is between all three dispensaries.squirell hill , and greensburg. Solevo …. thc-mon is awesome . Love the staff. Love the location. Stocked and great selection. Greensburg solevo a bit smaller but staff brings me back there ,too .
