Every Monday, CP staff writer Jordan Snowden wraps up the weekend in local and national music news with #MusicMonday. Here’s what she has this week:
Local
Ed Sheeran played at PNC Park and took the stage wearing a black t-shirt with a drawing of Mac Miller.
ed sheeran put on a good show tonight in pittsburgh. he came out in a mac miller shirt. i cried. the last thing he said to the crowd tonight was “rest in peace Mac Miller” pic.twitter.com/KUpCaMaVVn

Meanwhile, Maroon 5 and an under-the-weather Adam Levine put on a winning show at PPG Paints Arena.
@maroon5 in Pittsburgh was beyond incredible. @adamlevine told us he was sick, but he was a class act, rocked out and gave us an incredible show. This fan of 16 years is so happy. #REDPILLBLUESWORLDTOUR

It was quite a weekend for mainstream music in Pittsburgh.
How is it that both Adam Levin and Ed Sheeran were in Pittsburgh this weekend yet I’m still not married to either one ð

While performing at the Australian Football League grand final’s pre-game show, Will.i.am pulled an ultimate on-stage no-no: he checked his phone.
https://t.co/ACS9s6NX8w reading lyrics off of the phone? #AFLGF
— Jarrad Hext (@emileheksty) September 29, 2018
But it turns out, the former Black Eyed Peas member was live-streaming on Instagram, and he took to Twitter to defend himself.
Sharing on socials isn’t checking phone mid song…that’s me being a performer & camera man showing the world how Awesome Australia is…I wanted the world to see Australia from my point of view…& that POV is awesome & lovely…sorry if I offended anyone by sharing my love https://t.co/kLeUtOenmF
— will.i.am (@iamwill) September 29, 2018
@australian connecting with fans in Brazil, UK, Mexico and the entire world ok your phone is the whole point…I had a blast and so did everyone who viewed it phone my phone…I am honoured and proud to play the #AFLGrandFinal…#BIGLOVE means connecting and sharing pic.twitter.com/ocIeuwVtRt

reporting before researching.
Sad new world!!!
I still have #BIGLOVE for Australia & the world
Fact is:
being on the phone during a performance isn’t worse than what’s actually happening in the world…
Especially when your singing #bigLOVE…pay attention to what’s important https://t.co/s1O5KED8rN— will.i.am (@iamwill) September 29, 2018
It was also a big weekend for highly anticipated new album releases. It was hard to keep up with.
For starters, Weezy is back. Friday, Lil Wayne released Tha Carter V, his first album since Tha Carter IV in 2011. The long-awaited album features collabs with Travis Scott, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, and more.
Don’t call it a comeback, it was dark now the suns back #C5

So far, Tha Carter V ‘s fan-favorite is “Mona Lisa,” featuring Kendrick Lamar.

On Thursday, Logic dropped his fourth studio album, YSIV, which stands for Young Sinatra 4. This is the final installment in the YS series, and the title track packs a punch. In “YSIV,” the Maryland rapper pays tribute to Mac Miller, crediting the late rapper as the inspiration behind Young Sinatra.

The weirdness continued during YE’s final song, in which he wore a Make America Great Again hat and advocated abolishing the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. Then he tweeted about it.
this represents good and America becoming whole again. We will no longer outsource to other countries. We build factories here in America and create jobs. We will provide jobs for all who are free from prisons as we abolish the 13th amendment. Message sent with love pic.twitter.com/a15WqI8zgu
— ye (@kanyewest) September 30, 2018
kanye saying that he wants the 13th amendment (which abolished slavery) to be repealed and for america to stop outsourcing labor… from a private jet while wearing a trump hat and decked out in yeezy (made in china)… is too much confusion for me
— Marlow Stern (@MarlowNYC) September 30, 2018

I’ve been staring at my computer screen for 5 minutes literally dumbstruck, trying to reread that Kanye West tweet. Did he say in order to set people free we have to get rid of the 13th amendment? That’s gotta be a typo or I’m misreading that shit right?
— Jesse Cox (@JesseCox) September 30, 2018
All of this happened the weekend that YE’s album, Yandhi was supposed to be released, but wasn’t. A distraction tactic perhaps?

Just got off the phone with Kanye. He told me that Yandhi has been released since the beginning of mankind. The album is actually the moments of silence that we experience throughout our lives and must take for granted in order to find peace within ourselves. pic.twitter.com/m5wliidrNa

That’s it for now. Check in next week for another #MusicMonday wrap-up.
