The 5th annual Pittsburgh Zine Fair, taking place Oct. 4 at Highland Park’s Union Project, has put out a call for table applications. Photographers, writers, illustrators, cartoonists, journalists, printmakers or anyone else who self-publishes their work is encouraged to apply.
A zine is a self-published piece of work that fosters individual or small-community expression. Comic books, fiction and poetry booklets, and music magazines are common examples. The Pittsburgh Zine Fair is a free, all-ages event aimed at promoting and supporting zine culture and other DIY publishing methods in the city and surrounding area.
This year there has been a change from the previous first-come, first-served model to an application, ensuring that there will be a wide representation of vendors. Preference will be given to artists from the greater Pittsburgh region as well as those who have had a previous presence at the Pittsburgh Zine Fair.
Applications close on Aug. 7 and notifications will be sent by Aug. 14. Half-tables for individual artists are $10. Full tables for presses and collectives are $20.
The Union Project is located at 801 N. Negley Ave.
