Suburban housewife and mom of two Linda (Sandra Bullock) finds her life out of whack — literally. Over the course of a week, her days jump between the past and the present. In one set of days, her husband has been killed in a car accident, and the tragedies pile up; on the other days, there’s no accident … but is her life as happy as she thinks? In Mennan Yapo’s domestic thriller, Linda gets wise to the time-bending — a good deal later than we do — and decides to intervene (or is it “interfere”?) with fate. It’s a popular uh-oh premise: Can you change the future, and if so, should you? Premonition doesn’t bring much freshness to the genre’s conventions — scary black crows must have a great agent. Yapo keeps a welcome firm hand on histrionics, but ultimately the story isn’t compelling enough to overcome a fair amount of tedium throughout its second half. Premonition rests chiefly on Bullock’s capable shoulders, but it all comes crashing down in a particularly unsatisfying conclusion. (AH)
