All this happens in the just first 15 minutes of Justin Lin’s actioner: A prison bus is jacked; we arrive in Rio de Janiero and have a beer; a pregnancy is announced; three cars are stolen … from a moving train. Then, there are a fist fight and a blow-torch attack, plus a shoot-out that kills both American federal agents and Brazilian gangsters; an explosion; a train wreck; and a sports car driven off a cliff into a river far below. If you like the sound of this, then buckle up for the fifth iteration of the street-racing franchise starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Truthfully, Five is more of a heist film, with the whole gang reuniting to steal zillions, while evading a fed (Dwayne Johnson). At over two hours, this screech-and-quip fest is way too long, but if you like your men big and brawny and your action bloodless and gravity-defying, take a spin.
