A young married couple — she’s quite pregnant, he’s a bit distant — get lost in the country while driving to a wedding. Looking for directions, they pick up a hitchhiker, who promptly abducts them and takes them to an isolated farm house, where his accomplices are waiting. Thus begins a day or so worth of tension, awkwardness and occasional violence, as the woman (an engaging Alexandra Meierhans) waits out the inevitable. She makes an emotional connection with one kidnapper, and mulls over her life (is her husband the right man?). David Barker’s film falls somewhere between a generic held-against-one’s-will horror flick and an indie slow-burner dabbling in the philosophical. A worthy goal, and Daylight is handsomely filmed, but I never found it nervy or intriguing enough to fully grab me. Starts Fri., July 29. Oaks
