If you listen carefully to Nicole Atkins’ music, you can hear the different layers of influence. On songs like “Goodnight Rhonda Lee,” from her new album of the same name, there are hints of Loretta Lynn. On her cover of “Bye Bye Blackbird,” there’s a clear reference to John Coltrane.
