The Pittsburgh Riverhounds squared off against the New York City Football Club in the U.S. Open Cup round of 32 at Highmark Stadium last night. NYCFC, a member of the MLS, proved to be a difficult opponent for the Hounds as the match remained scoreless after 90 minutes. Six minutes of stoppage time was added to the clock at the end of regulation. With just seconds left in the game Robbie Mertz delivered a perfect corner kick to Beto Ydrach who then made the winning header in the corner of the net. Pittsburgh will travel to Philadelphia to take on the Union in round 16 of the cup on May 20, 2025.
